Dakar Bitcoin Days pushed back to November 27 and 28, with more than 600 already registered

Senegal’s forum on bitcoin and digital payments will take place at the Seanema cinema in the Sea Plaza, Dakar. Unlike earlier editions, entry is paid, starting at 9,900 CFA francs a day.

Why it mattersIf you plan to attend, check the date: the original schedule (November 6 and 7) still circulates on some ticketing pages. Registration runs through the official site, with four ways to pay.

One month to go, and the room is filling up. More than 600 people have already signed up for the Dakar Bitcoin Days, organizer Mouhamadou Kouta wrote on October 27 on his Substack newsletter. There were nearly 500 on September 22, when he announced that the dates were changing.

The fourth edition will now take place on November 27 and 28, 2026 at the Seanema, the cinema in the Sea Plaza, Dakar, according to the event’s official website. Several pages online, including the Luma ticketing page, still show November 6 and 7, the original schedule: worth checking before booking a flight or a hotel. A blog post published on September 1 also carried the old dates.

Two days, two themes

The programme is built around two subjects. The first day covers the institutional approach to crypto-assets: regulatory frameworks and central bank digital currencies. The second deals with decentralized cross-border payments, with a look at financial inclusion in Africa. According to Coinpedia, which draws on the event’s own description, the first day also looks at bitcoin’s place in economic and geopolitical strategy, and the second at the effect it could have on trade within the African Continental Free Trade Area. Luma describes a forum of talks, panels, workshops and demos, open to beginners and regulars alike. Sessions will be in French, English and Wolof, according to the Coinpedia listing. The website lists thirteen speakers, including Karim Sy, Ndongo Samba Sylla, Antoine Ngom and Sébastien Ramos, without giving their roles or the session times.

The announced sponsors are Btrust, Wave, Banxa and Eclipse Holdings. Partners include OPTIC, Senstartup and the Alliance Fintech UEMOA. The event dates back to December 2022: the third edition ran from October 29 to 31, 2025 at the CICES, the second at the Grand Théâtre in December 2023. The organizers claim an average of 350 participants per edition, and Luma speaks of nearly 1,000 people across the first three.

The website says that “entry will be paid”. The day pass is listed at 9,900 CFA francs, about 15 euros. Luma also offers a Premium ticket covering both days (VIP lounge, closing cocktail, meals), whose price does not appear on the pages we consulted. According to the organizer’s September 22 post, the code DBD20 gives 20% off paid passes; it appears neither on the website nor on Luma.

  • In bitcoin, through Banxa, from the official website.
  • By bank card, through Luma.
  • By mobile money, through Guichet.com or Gnudem.

Students can register with proof of status. In his October 27 post, Mouhamadou Kouta says a form lets students try to win one of 300 places set aside for them. He promises announcements “very soon” on speakers, the hackathon and sponsors.
