The National Assembly has approved a 2026 budget of 81.06 billion CFA francs for the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy. Nearly 60% of this sum, about 48.6 billion, is to finance investment in digital transformation.

What the budget is to finance

  • Rolling out a sovereign cloud
  • Biometric digital identity
  • Extending network coverage across the whole country
  • Digitising public services
  • Free connectivity for a million vulnerable citizens from 2026

These projects are part of the “Technology New Deal” led by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, which aims to make Senegal a sovereign digital power and an African tech hub by 2034.

The budget as voted does not yet say how these amounts are split between projects. That is what will need to be followed over the year, project by project.
